This blog began as a way to keep in touch with friends and family while preparing and embarking on the journey to bring home Kaitlyn. A year has passed and Kaitlyn and I have experienced a life time of changes. For those of you who know me, you know what's going on. For those of you who don't, details aren't necessary. Suffice it to say that Kaitlyn is a beautiful, intelligent, witty, stubborn, mule-headed little girl and I love being her momma. Actually, I think it's the role I was born to play.

I have one funny story that I need to relate from the past week. Tuesday night I stopped by Once Upon a Child (my favorite store) to see if they had anything new. I bought a pair of black Mary Janes. They are size 6, so Kaitlyn probably won't be able to wear them until December. Anyway, I was putting some clothes away in Kaitlyn's closet and I could hear her whining in the living room. It wasn't the "I just fell off the couch again" whine. It was the "I can't do what I want to do and it's starting to irritate me" whine. I went on about my business, hearing the whine a couple more times.

A few seconds later I heard the most peculiar noise. I could tell that Kaitlyn was walking toward her room but after each footstep there followed a "kerplunk". It sounded as though she was dragging something down the hall. The step, kerplunk, step, kerplunk continued until Kaitlyn reached the door of her room. I looked up and she had this HUGE smile on her face as she proudly announced "SHOES". I looked down and on her left foot was the black Mary Jane that I had purchased only hours earlier. Kaitlyn's right foot was bare and slightly behind her was the other shoe, still attached by string to the left one. I immediately burst out in laughter and Kaitlyn laughed too though she probably wasn't sure why. She looked at me again and said "SHOE!".

She was so proud of these $4 slightly used shoes AND the fact that she had managed to get one of them on. I hugged her and told her how proud I was that she was able to put the shoe on all by herself. I then cut the string so that she could put on the other shoe without doing a face-plant on the carpet. She was thrilled and proudly put on the second shoe. She then walked around for the next hour proclaiming "SHOE!". That night I had a horrible time getting her to sleep. Every time I laid her down she popped back up screaming "SHOE!". She wanted to sleep with them!! Even I have to draw the line somewhere. I assured her that the shoe would be there the next day, albeit 1 1/2 sizes too big, and she finally drifted off to sleep amidst tears and sniffles.

Last night we stopped by Bob Evans and shared a turkey dinner. She ate most of my cranberry sauce. She really is my daughter!!!
